Every Village Has An Irishman - And Village Brewery Is No Different! My name is Barry Devlin. I came to Calgary in August 2015 from my hometown of Galway on the west coast of Ireland, with my fiancée Nikita, on a two-year working holiday visa. As unlikely as it might seem, I had never been in a brewery before starting work with Village, so it was a steep learning curve from day one. 

2017 marked the 10th anniversary of Janes Walk, a series of led walks focused on communal education and neighbourhood exploration. Inspired by the late Jane Jacobs, an urbanist and community builder, these walks take place in over 200 countries across the world. Walks are planned and led by individuals seeking to educate and engage citizens in their surrounding communities.

Hello! My name is Shira Pearson and I am Village Brewery’s Manager of First Impressions. Which is a big name to live up to - is it my fault if someone has a bad impression?

“That must be a fun job”  It is, it really is. Though, it is nothing like what you think it is….well, maybe a little.  I think 17 year old Jeremy would have been rather surprised if you told him he would be doing quality control for a microbrewery. After 6 or so years in the industry the job opened up at Village for a Quality Control Manager and as a brewer with a science degree, I had to jump at the opportunity. So the question is: what exactly do you do for quality control at a brewery that isn’t Budweiser? In other words we don’t have a giant lab with every fancy toy, though we have a very good foundation for that.
